PUBLIC STATEMENT

Fraudulent Emails and Impersonation of
BVI Financial Services Commission Personnel and Connected Persons

Tortola, British Virgin Islands – 20 March 2026 – The British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission (the ‘FSC’) considers it necessary to issue this Public Statement to protect customers, creditors, and members of the public who may have been approached via email by individuals impersonating, or falsely claiming to be, employees of or otherwise connected to the FSC. This notice also serves to alert the public to these concerning activities.

Details

The FSC has been made aware of the circulation of fraudulent emails bearing the subject line “AML/CFT 101 Financial Sanctions,” sent by an individual falsely purporting to be an employee of the FSC. These emails contain malicious links and/or attachments and request that recipients download files. It is suspected that such downloads are intended to compromise the security of the recipient’s device or system.

The FSC has also been made aware of additional emails sent by individuals impersonating persons connected with the FSC, with the apparent intention of initiating further communication under false pretences.

While the sender’s name in such communications may appear legitimate, the underlying email addresses frequently originate from unofficial or unauthorised domains. The FSC therefore strongly urges the public to exercise caution and due diligence when reviewing emails.

Persons are reminded that all official FSC communications originate from the domain @bvifsc.vg. Care should be taken to verify the authenticity of any email communication, including being alert to emails that create a false sense of urgency or request the download of attachments or access to links.

Suspicious emails should not be relied upon as legitimate communication from the FSC. Where there is any doubt, the public is advised to contact the FSC directly using verified contact details, either by telephone or by initiating a separate new email thread to one of our official email addresses.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any relevant information concerning suspicious emails, entities or individuals purporting to operate in or from within the Territory, as well as any improper or fraudulent activities, by contacting the FSC at [email protected].

This Public Statement is issued pursuant to Section 37A(4) of the Financial Services Commission Act, 2001.
