FSC CONCLUDES ACTIVITIES FOR WORLD INVESTOR WEEK 2025

Money Matters BVI

Road Town, British Virgin Islands — 10 October 2025  The BVI Financial Services Commission (the Commission), through its financial literacy programme MONEY MATTERS BVI (MMBVI), successfully concluded a series of activities for World Investor Week 2025 (WIW 2025), joining over 118 jurisdictions worldwide in promoting financial awareness and investor protection.

Observed from 6 to 10 October this year, World Investor Week is a campaign promoted by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection. This year’s observance focused on themes related to technology and digital finance, artificial intelligence, crypto assets, and the fundamentals of investing. In recognition of this year’s theme, MMBVI hosted workshops and discussions centred on the intersection of finance, technology, and innovation — including artificial intelligence, digital currencies, and investment fundamentals.

Throughout the week, MMBVI collaborated with financial services professionals and organisations to deliver a variety of interactive sessions aimed at promoting informed investing. The workshops provided learning forums with senior students from various secondary schools as well as employees of the Commission. Participants were introduced to practical strategies for managing risk, identifying credible investment opportunities, and understanding the broader connection between finance, technology, and economic development. Attendees also explored the dynamics of the digital economy, the opportunities created by technological change, and the importance of cautious and informed investing.

Workshops also included interactive components that encouraged creativity and collaboration, such as group exercises that linked investment concepts to real-world challenges. These sessions helped to foster a deeper understanding of how technological advances influence financial decision-making and personal financial planning.

Financial Literacy Coordinator, Derecia Thomas, stated: “The workshops were able to shed light on the importance of understanding the interconnectedness of the transformation of money to economic and social factors and provide a deeper understanding of investment options and opportunities. A knowledge that will undoubtedly contribute to more informed and effective decisions in future financial planning for everyone.”

Managing Director and CEO, Mr Kenneth Baker, added: “The Commission remains committed to its statutory mandate to promote a safe and sound financial services environment within the Territory. Through strategic initiatives that strengthen investor education and financial literacy, the Commission will continue to advance the mission of empowering individuals and organisations alike to make informed financial decisions and to contribute positively to the continued growth and stability of the economy.”
