As a branch of the General British Registry of Ships, BVI registered vessels are subject to the same safety and environmental protection standards and regulations as U.K. vessel. Yes. For the time being BVI is for the time being a Red Ensign Category 2 Register. This means that we can register only ships of up to 150 GRT. (This is under review and it is expected that the upper level will be vessel to 399 GRT in the case of Pleasure Yachts before the end of year 2002.)
Ship in BVI are surveyed and certified by surveyors approved by the BVI Administration. Ships overseas are surveyed and certified by surveyors of UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency or any of the selected number of classification society and other organizations authorized in that regard by the BVI Administration or the MCA.
